"666" in history:

Every century has a single date that can be written like 06/06/06: 1906-JUN-06, 2006-JUN-06, 2106-JUN-06... It is one of a dozen days each century when it doesn't matter in what format you record dates:

  • The American standard of MM/DD/YY, or
  • Other "standards" like DD/MM/YY or
  • The favorite of computer programmers YY/MM/DD. Programmers like it because it simplifies sorting by date and can be expanded to YY/MM/DD/HH/MM/SS...

Either way, 06.06.06 is delightfully unambiguous.

Nothing much happened on the previous "666" date on 1906-JUN-06:

  • A British "autoist" (car driver) led the Herkomer Automobile Competition between Vienna and Munich.
  • The National Liquor Dealer's Association in Louisville, KY commended the "work of those who fight the inglorious fight of intoxication and all its evils."
  • In a referendum in Smith Falls, ON, Canada the district decided to conform with church expectations and continue its ban on dancing, card-playing and theatre-going.
  • But no noticeable apocalyptic events happened. 2

Happenings on this century's "666"(2006-JUN-06):

There are some interesting events which happened on 2006-JUN-06:

  • The Senate discussed whether to pass a Federal Marriage Amendment. It would have made history by writing actual discrimination into the U.S. Constitution for the first time. It would have permanently banned same-sex marriage everywhere in the U.S. Some religious and social conservatives expressed their belief that same-sex marriage could mean the end of American civilization as we know it. Debate started on the previous day: JUN-05. A vote was taken on the following day: JUN-07. The amendment was defeated.
  • According to an E-mail that we received, the writer believes that "666," the number of the beast mentioned in the biblical book of Revelation, is really a date: 06/06/06 or 2006-JUN-6. He expected the rapture and start of the tribulation on that date. Unfortunately for the prophecy, the date came and passed with no indication that rapture happened.
  • A movie "The Beast" involves the discovery of proof that Jesus Christ never existed. "The authors of the Gospels, writing 40 to 90 years after the supposed life of Christ, never intended for their works to be read as biographies." 3 The screen play involves apparently involved a momentous event on 2006-JUN-06. It was originally unclear what the event is. The production staff were sworn to secrecy. It turns out that big secret was that the movie was released on this date.
  • A remake of the 1976 move "The Omen" was also released on 2006-JUN-06. It involves "the story of a modern-day birth of an Antichrist figure in the form of an evil boy named Damien." 4
  • Some bands, including AFI a pop punk group and Slayer, a trash metal band, scheduled albums for this date. Subsequently, the release of Slayer's album, "Christ Illusion," had to be delayed until 2006-AUG-08.
  • Ann Coulter's book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism" was released. It interprets liberalism as a religion with: "...its own cosmology, its own miracles, its own beliefs in the supernatural, its own churches, its own high priests, its own saints, its own total worldview, and its own explanation of the existence of the universe." Read reviews or order this book safely from Amazon.com online book store. Amazon.com reviewers mostly gave this book a rating of either 1 star (the minimum) or 5 stars (the maximum). This is common for controversial books -- particularly those with a religious theme.
  • Hell, MI held a festival, complete with 666 T-shirts and mugs. 5
  • This web site's prediction for 06/06/06 was that nothing much would happen. We were not particularly surprised when we were shown to be correct.

Because of the epidemic of obesity in North America, the life expectancy of children is probably less than that of their parents. Few people now alive will still be around to experience the next "666" on 2106-JUN-06.

666 fear surfaces in Uganda:

The religion of Injilli (Good News) broke away from the Seventh Day Adventists in Uganda about 2005. They now have over 70,000 members -- largely in eastern Uganda. Many parents who follow the faith group are refusing to send their children to public schools. They fear that the Pupil Identification Number (PIN) used to register and track students is associated with the number 666. The PIN number has been in use since the start of the universal primary education system in Uganda during 1997. One estimate is that over 20,000 children have dropped out of school. Some parents refuse to have their children immunized because they fear that the PIN will be injected into their bodies.

Damasco Woniala, 40, is one of the parents. He said:

"I will not take my children to school unless the PIN is withdrawn. I want my children to serve God and not the beast. ... Education is not bad. When someone is educated, the person can build a road, a school or church. But education became bad with the introduction of the PIN. ... I can buy them food or clothes, but will not pay their school fees or buy scholastic materials. I don’t want any member of my family to go to Hell or associate with the beast,"

His wife, Milda Woniala, 34, is also a member of Injilli, agrees. She believes that when the government forced all the children in schools to have a PIN, they were made into devils. She said:

"They do not want them to have eternal life. I have pulled my two children out of school."

His daughter, Brenda Namataka, said:

“We watched a film on TV in church. The film showed a computer and a microchip. The PIN is associated with number 666 -- the beast’s code. We were told that this PIN has reached schools and we should stop going to school. ... Dropping out of school is bad. But if the PIN remains in schools, I may drop out.

Injilli members have searched the Internet and found that the PIN used in schools, banks, and other electronic systems, is the name of the biblical beast. Members don't use banks, don't go to hospitals, and don't use computers, telephones, cameras or fax machines out of fear. 6
