Gods, Goddesses & other Deities,
as perceived by various religions:

The Epicurian Riddle, a.k.a.
(the Epicurian Paradox)

love and god

A paraphrase of a quotation by the
ancient Greek philosopher, Epicurus:
(341–270 BCE):

Powerful, thought provoking, and challenging quotations related to God:

bullet Woody Allen: " If someone said: "l tell you whether there is a God, [and] whether life has meaning.’ It’s better not to know -- because if the answer is no, you’d better do some fast tap dancing. If the odds are 50-50, it’s better not to know.”
bullet Terry L. Miethe & Gary R. Habermas, "The whole history of humanity as such can be written as a search for a meaningful answer to the question of the existence of God." From the Preface of the book "20 Compelling Evidences That God Exists," by Kenneth Boa & Robert Bowman.
bullet Anon: "You can safely assume that you've created God in your own image, when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do." Sometimes attributed to Anne Lamott or Fr. John Weston.
bullet Rev. Tony Campolo: "We are furious that the religious right has made Jesus into a Republican. That's idolatry. To recreate Jesus in your own image rather than allowing yourself to be created in Jesus' image is what's wrong with politics."
bullet Jim W. Martyn,  "I suggest that people who express hatred towards others do so because they are unable to love themselves or God. That's sad, and unfortunately causes many of the social and political problems in our nation and world."
bullet Stephen Roberts, a strong Atheist talking to a theist about the thousands of gods and goddesses worshiped by humans: "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
bullet Xenophanes, an ancient Greek philosopher: "If horses had Gods, they would look like horses!"
